Bring along a small carry-on bag with enough clothes and necessities to stay one night if you are bumped from a standby flight, or your checked baggage arrives later than you.
It is best to list standby seating in First or Business Class (on those flights which provide these classes) since you can later decide to ride in Coach.  Those listed in Coach class which completely fills may -not- ride in First Class, even if seats are available.
